Software Development Engineer

Summary: Responsible for the support of existing applications as well as developing new applications for internal and external use. Individual must be self-motivated and capable of prioritizing tasks and managing time to support production needs. The individual must be adept at problem solving and making timely ethical decisions. A strong background in software engineering and proficiency in every phase of the software lifecycle is required. A basic understanding of electronics and bench instrumentation is desired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Design, develop, and maintain Windows-based desktop software applications that support FTI products. Applications may be for internal or external use. Design, create, and maintain the application database if one is needed.
  • Create specification documentation alongside internal product owners.
  • Gather, analyze, classify, and prioritize requirements from sources of a wide variety of backgrounds and technical levels.
  • Create and maintain documentation for application end-user use and training.
  • Provide end-user support and training for both internal and external applications.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must be an excellent communicator with the ability to effectively present information, write reports, analyze data and plan accordingly. Ability to analyze problem situations, develop and implement solutions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to develop process mapping as appropriate and have a hands-on mentality. Must be able to accurately estimate the effort required to complete tasks/projects.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar from four-year college or university, plus five years software development experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have an excellent command of Microsoft Office suite and be proficient in the following languages/ tools/ frameworks:

  • C#
  • SQL
  • MySQL
  • Microsoft Reporting Services RDLC Reports
  • Excel Integration
  • C++
  • VBA
  • HTML / CSS
  • ASP.NET

Skills considered a plus:

  • Communication protocols such as Modbus, CANbus, and RS-232
  • VISA communication API
  • BarTender
  • TeeChart
  • Template Toolkit
  • Microsoft Visual SourceSafe
